A smartphone walk guided by an augmented-reality Billiken will launch in Osaka’s Semba district on October 24. Tamurakoma and Designium’s Semba AR Navi connects ten historic-building stops, where visitors can hear stories and collect digital stamps. It works in a web browser without a separate app installation and supports Japanese, English, Chinese and Korean.

The service is described as permanent, but its launch reward has a much shorter window. On October 24 and 25, visitors who collect all ten stamps can exchange them for a Billiken plush at Tamurakoma’s Osaka headquarters building. The limit is the first one hundred people across the two days, rather than one hundred per day. Exchanges run from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The promotion accompanies Osaka’s annual open-building festival. Its connection to architecture is built into the route: the stops include the Semba Building, Shibakawa Building and the former residence associated with the Tekijuku school. Visitors encounter the character at actual buildings while learning their stories.

The exchange address is 3-3-9 Azuchimachi, Chuo Ward. Reward availability should be distinguished from continued access to the walking service after the festival weekend.
