An October 24 newspaper campaign for Mizuki Tsujimura’s latest two-volume novel draws on comments from at least 400 booksellers across all 47 Japanese prefectures. Shogakukan says regional versions of its full-page Yomiuri Shimbun advertisement pair local booksellers’ responses with a newly written essay by the author about bookshops.
The campaign coincides with the start of an autumn reading-promotion month. It promotes an existing book rather than a new October release: the novel’s two volumes were published on June 5 and are priced at 2,090 yen each, including tax.
There is also a purchase offer to distinguish from the newspaper feature. Readers buying both volumes together at participating bookshops can receive a clear sleeve, while supplies last; distribution methods vary by store.
The publisher’s special website separates spoiler-free responses from a password-protected area for readers who have finished the novel. It also offers a preview of the opening 30 pages.
