U-Stella has bundled the Virtual Sign hand-shape tool with both sample and paid versions of its Lumia avatar for VRChat. Developed by T_Chief_ of T.C.Works, the tool changes the avatar’s hand shapes in response to controller inputs used for VR fingerspelling.
The tool adds seventeen gestures used for fingerspelling and numbers without requiring hand tracking. A standalone version is also distributed free, alongside a 1,000-yen support edition with identical contents. Standalone installation lists Modular Avatar and lilToon as prerequisites.
International fan outlook and trend context — Editorial forecast
Compared with the limited finger shapes available directly through standard VR controllers, Virtual Sign adds a set of predefined shapes closer to those used in real-world Japanese fingerspelling. Overseas VRChat users learning Japanese fingerspelling may find the added shapes useful because they offer a way to practice the visual forms while using controllers rather than hand-tracking hardware. This is an editorial forecast, not a report of observed overseas demand.
The release explicitly says this is not automatic translation of an entire sign language. Check the creator’s distribution page for setup and operation requirements. The announced function should not be assumed to cover every language, avatar configuration or communication need.
