Older photographs can enter Nagano Prefecture’s 150th-anniversary photo contest, whose submission window closes on November 3. In an October 24 announcement, the prefecture highlighted pictures of people and local history alongside landscapes and other images expressing the region’s appeal.
Entries are submitted through the contest website. Professionals and amateurs in Japan or overseas may participate, although minors need a guardian’s consent and prizes can only be shipped to addresses in Japan. The announcement does not limit entries to newly taken photographs.
That distinction gives family albums and older views of local life a place in the competition alongside contemporary photography. The prefecture specifically invites images of past streetscapes, traditional festivals and everyday life from earlier decades. Applicants should check the contest’s full entry rules before uploading, including any conditions affecting the photographs they submit.
